Visitors to the World Expo will find everything available on site, ranging from free drinking water to food, toilets and shelters.
The organizer has put visitors’ every need into consideration with a visitor-oriented approach, Shanghai Executive Vice Mayor Yang Xiong told a press conference hosted by the Information Office of the State Council in Beijing today.
There will be 95 drinking fountains at the site, allowing visitors to get water every 100 meters, Yang said.
More than 8,500 individual toilets will be built, 20 on average for each thousand visitors if daily visitor flow reaches 400,000. Mobile toilets will also be set up to avoid long queues, Yang noted.
The catering area for every 1,000 visitors will be 240 square meters, compared with the 109 square meters at Aichi Expo in 2005. Visitors can find snacks within a five-minute walk.
Enough shelters against sun and rain will also be installed, given Shanghai’s sizzling temperature in July and August, according to Yang.
He revealed that some major pavilions may extend their openings after the Expo because they are too small for “a large number” of visitors.
For example, the China Pavilion can only receive 50,000 visitors daily, while the estimated daily visitors will reach 400,000 on average, he said. “Opinions are being canvassed on the issue.”
Yang said 42 buses will transport visitors inside the Pudong zone of the Expo site, which will cover a route of 2.4 kilometers. The interval between buses will be no longer than one minute.
